In accordance with the Act to Address Challenges Faced by Municipalities and State Authorities Resulting from COVID-19, signed on Friday, April 3, the Town is exercising the option made available by the legislation to extend the due date of tax payments. The Board of Selectmen voted to approve the extension at their meeting Tuesday, April 14, 2020.
The original deadline for tax payments due on May 1, 2020 has been extended to June 1, 2020.
The due date for applications for property tax exemptions has also been extended to June 1, 2020.
The Town has also voted to waive interest and other penalty for late payment of any excise (motor vehicle), property tax, betterment assessment or apportionment thereof, water/sewer bill or other charge added to a tax for any payments with a due date on or after March 10, 2020 where payment is made late but before June 30, 2020. This applies to late payments of bills that have a due date of March 10, 2020 or after, when such bills are paid late but paid on or before June 30. This waiver of interest does not apply to bills with due dates before March 10, 2020 or if the bill is not paid by June 30.
Though Town offices are currently closed to the public, there are three payment methods available:
*Mail a check with the bill remit slip in the envelope provided
*Pay online on the Town’s website at https://www.town.canton.ma.us (ACH = no fee; credit/debit card = fee based on amount paid)
*Place a check with the bill remit slip, and/or your exemption application, in the drop-box at the front entrance to Town Hall at 801 Washington St., Canton, MA 02021
