TOWN OF CANTON - CANTON BOARD OF HEALTH
Amendments to the “Canton Board of Health Prohibition of the Sale of Tobacco Products to Minor Regulation”
On Monday, August 14, 2017, the Canton Board of Health will be holding a public hearing at Canton Memorial Hall in the Salah Meeting Room at 7:00 PM to discuss and vote on certain amendments to the Canton Board of Health Prohibition of the Sale of Tobacco Products to Minors Regulation.
A summary of the amendments to the Regulation include, but are not limited to adding language that places a moratorium on the issuance of any new Tobacco Sales Permits in the Town of Canton, however allows the continued renewal of currently held, valid Tobacco Sales Permits. It provides direction and timelines for the potential, limited application for a Tobacco Sales Permit to a new business owner under certain conditions if a transfer of a business holding a current, valid Tobacco Sales Permit takes place within a specified amount of time after the transfer. It provides that the Probationary Period for violations is extended from 18 months to 36 months, and that if a Permit is within a Probationary Period occurs, that Probationary Period is transferred to the new owner as well. It provides a window and timeline for the application of one additional electronic cigarette-only retail store Permit. It expands and modifies certain definitions of the Regulation.
Additional language changes will extend the period of time (Probationary Period) in which a series of violations will trigger the permanent revocation of tobacco permits, the number of violations triggering a Permit revocation is reduced from 4 to 3, and the title of the Regulation will be slightly altered.
