Recent transportation planning efforts include transit links, Route 138 corridor, the Washington & Randolph intersection, a Complete Streets policy and prioritization plan, and a downtown parking management plan. The Planning Department also participates in the Suburban Mobility Working Group of the Neponset Valley Transportation Management Authority. Commuter shuttles in the Royall Street area began running between 2021-2022, by the Neponset Valley Transportation Management Authority. They are also open to the public for a small fee.
In 2022, the Town's Engineering department is working on design for walking and biking improvements to Neponset Street between Washington Street and Chapman Street. The Engineering Department is also working on design for walking and ADA improvements to Washington Street between Cobb Corner and High Street. The Boston MPO Central Transportation Planning staff is simultaneously looking at conceptual bicycle and pedestrian design improvements to Washington Street between Cobbs Corner and Sherman Street.
Future transportation planning efforts include expanding Safe Routes to School education and infrastructure, expanding safe biking and walking alternatives, supporting efforts to reduce traffic congestion pinch points, and expanding suburban mobility and local transit options.
