Expedited Permitting

In an effort to promote economic development and provide a fast and predictable permitting process, the Town has adopted MGL Chapter 43D, Expedited Permitting. The Expedited Permitting program is currently offered for several properties in Canton (see below for the full list). It guarantees that the land use permitting boards and committees such as the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals will act on permit applications within 180 days. For more information on Expedited Permitting, see the information below. You can also contact Gene Manning, Chair of the Economic Development Committee.

What is Expedited Permitting?

  • Massachusetts State Law 43D allows communities to designate specific geographic areas targeted for economic development.
  • Within those areas, the Town guarantees that certain land use permits issued by the Board of Appeals, Planning Board or Conservation Commission, will be acted upon by those Boards within 180 days.
  • Expedited permitting does NOT guarantee permit approval.
