Westwood Station Update: Board of
Selectmen have announced they have appealed the request of the
Town of Westwood, to make “alterations” to a Public Way known as
Canton Street, Westwood. This action by the Board will protect
the Town of Canton’s interest(s) and trigger the authority of
the Norfolk County Commissioners to make the final decision on
any “alteration” of Canton Street. If the Board of Selectmen had
not appealed the request of the Town of Westwood, they would
have been authorized under applicable law, to make the
alteration(s) effectively terminating Canton Street in Westwood.
They would have been authorized on their own, without anyone’s
approval, to make such a decision. It is expected a public
hearing will be held in June, by the County Commissioners to
hear the Town’s appeal, and that of any other community
adversely impacted by any plan to terminate Canton Street,
Westwood.
